Pope Francis proclaims 35 new Saints including 33 Martyrs

Pope Francis,  who has repeatedly paid tribute to Christians suffering or dying for their faith in current times, especially in the Middle East since he became Pontiff in 2013, gave the Catholic Church  35 new saints  during a Mass celebrated by Pope Francis in St Peter’s Square, Rome. Three of the saints were children in 16th-century Mexico who were martyred for embracing the Catholic faith and refusing to return to their ancient conditions. 30 who were also proclaimed Saints on Sunday are martyrs, including priests and lay people, who suffered anti-Catholic persecution in 1645 at the hands of Dutch Calvinists in Brazil.

The National Association of Nigerian Students has announced the death of its former president, Dauda Mohammed, who died on his way to Indian hospital for treatment. Mohammed died on Sunday, October 1, en route Indian Artemis Group of Hospitals, Delhi following Niger State Government's release of N14 million to foot the medical bill. The 38-year-old former student of the University of Jos left Abuja on Saturday, September 30 to receive treatment for liver cirrhosis. NAN's president, Comrade Chinonso Obasi while speaking with newsmen over the death of his predecessor said the hospital sent him a mail that Mohammed died five minutes before landing at Delhi Airport. Buhari orders immediate evacuation of Nigerian students in Dominican Island

President Buhari at the UN (NANs) President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the immediate evacuation of Nigerian students stranded in Dominican Island occasioned by the reported Hurricane Maria that thrashed the Island. Nigerian students attend medical schools in Dominican Islands which prepare them to move to the U. S.  and Europe for the completion of their medical degree programmes. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that following the president’s directive, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had since been on top of the situation. NAN gathered that the ministry,which has been monitoring the situation, had already assigned a senior official to travel for the purpose of issuing the stranded students with temporary travel certificates.
